Password Generator
Generate a random password in your browser. Choose length from 4 to 128 and which character sets to include: lowercase, uppercase, digits, and symbols. You can exclude look-alike characters 0, O, 1, l, and I.

About the Password Generator
Drawing uses your browser’s cryptographic random source, the same family of API as the random number generator. Nothing is sent to a server. Click Generate — a password is not created until you ask. Reset or a reload clears the string from the page.
This is a convenience generator, not an audited password manager or hardware token. Store the result in a manager you trust. Estimated entropy is length × log2(charset size), an upper bound for a uniform independent draw. A unique password per site matters more than memorizing one clever phrase — generate here, save there, and turn on two-factor authentication for email and banking. Length must be at least 4 so each enabled set can contribute one character; 128 is the cap. Look-alikes 0, O, 1, l, and I are dropped only when you choose Exclude.
How the Password Generator works
Each enabled set contributes at least one character so a 12-character “letters + digits” password cannot accidentally be letters only. The string is then shuffled.
Entropy bits ≈ length × log2(charset size)
Charset = union of the enabled sets (minus look-alikes if excluded)
Example
Length 16 with four sets and look-alikes excluded has a charset of several dozen symbols and roughly 90+ bits of naive entropy.
How to Use the Password Generator
- Set a length from 4 to 128.
- Enable at least one character set.
- Choose whether to drop 0/O/1/l/I.
- Click Generate password.
- Copy the result yourself; reload or reset clears it from the page state.
Password Generator Examples
Everyday 16
16 characters with mixed case, digits, and symbols is a typical manager default.
Digits only
A PIN-style string is just digits enabled. Entropy is then length × log2(8 or 10) depending on look-alikes.
Too short
Lengths under 4 are rejected so the required-set rule can still run.
How Passwords Are Generated
The generator picks one character from each enabled set, fills the remaining length from the full charset, then shuffles with cryptographic random indexes. A failed random draw aborts instead of falling back to Math.random.
Rough entropy
More length and a larger charset raise the estimate. Excluding look-alikes slightly lowers charset size.
| Length | Charset ~70 | Charset ~20 |
|---|---|---|
| 8 | ~49 bits | ~35 bits |
| 12 | ~74 bits | ~52 bits |
| 16 | ~98 bits | ~69 bits |
| 20 | ~123 bits | ~86 bits |
Use a manager
A unique password per site matters more than memorizing one clever phrase. Generate here, store there, and enable two-factor authentication on important accounts. If a site rejects some symbols, turn symbols off and add a few extra characters of length instead of recycling an old password. Click Generate again for a new draw; previous strings stay only in whatever you copied. Nothing is uploaded: drawing uses the browser’s cryptographic random source, and a failed draw aborts instead of falling back to Math.random. Estimated entropy is an upper bound for a uniform independent draw — it is not a certified module or a substitute for a hardware token.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the password uploaded?
No. Generation runs locally.
Why no password until I click?
So the page does not create secrets on every keystroke.
What symbols are used?
!@#$%^&*()-_=+[]{}
Is this for Wi-Fi or email?
You can use the string anywhere you need a random secret. Site rules may still reject some symbols.
Audited HSM?
No. Do not treat this as a certified cryptographic module.
